BUYING A BUSINESS IN SCOTLAND - CAN WE HELP?

Buying a business is a big step, we can help avoid the many pitfalls and help ensure you buy a good business and make it a success.

So how can we help?

Looking for a business? A telephone conversation with us will confirm the price range you should be looking at, the areas of Scotland you should consider, the things you should be looking out for and the questions you MUST ask the agent before you even arrange to view. We will also make sure that you are aware of all the opportunities available - even the businesses that are not on the open market!

When you go to view the business we will tell you the questions you MUST ask the owner - but 99% of buyers don't - and find out the hard way when they take over and it is too late!

Whilst you are doing the viewing we will be carrying out research using our contacts made over 25 years of selling businesses in Scotland. There may be a lot of history on the business that the owner and his agent don't want to tell you.

Let us examine the business accounts and raise the quistions that MUST be answered.

Ok, so you've found a business, we have confirmed that you should be able to finance it, you have asked all the right questions, next stage what should you offer. What is the business worth? The lenders valuer will charge you £1000 or more to carry out a valuation, what if after spending that money the vendor will not accept the value? You have lost £1000 or more and are back to square one!

To get around this we will carry out a valuation on your behalf - as part of our no buy no pay fee! We cannot guarantee this will come out the same as the lenders value, but as we are qualified business agents with over 25 years experience and access to major data, it should be close. Negotiating a price can cause problems - better to leave it to us, after all we are trained and experienced negotiators.

There are loads of other things we can help with. Getting the list of info for the legal people for instance - putting you in contact with the best ( and most economic) solicitor to handle the legal side of buying - and of course arranging the funding - not easy in this economic climate - but we have access to all the lenders, we know which banks say they are lending but don't and which ones will help - if the proposal is put the right way to them. Who is going to help you with you're business plan? BBS, and we can also put you in touch with excellent accountants who will look at the business accounts, create your cash flow projection, and when the time comes get you set up for trading .

What else? Oh yes the day you take over your new business - so much to do, arrange a stocktaker to value the stock and make sure you only buy good stock that you can sell.

Check the inventory - is all th equipment you though you were getting actually there? Don't worry, we will be there on the completion day to help ensure that everything is taken care of.

Now I know what your thinking, how much is all this goin to cost? Well first of all we think our service is cost positive - how? We will save you so much money on every aspect of buying our fee will be paid for many times over.

Our fees are simple. Give us a call or come and see us at our office, there is no charge for the initial meeting. If you don't think we can help then fair enough, no harm done, but at the worst you will come away from the meeting with a few worth while tips.

If you decide to instruct BBS as your buying agent, then we will charge you £300. Nothing else to pay us until you buy your business and move in when we will charge you £3000. ( VAT APPLIES).

Note : If we use a finance broker they may also charge a fee as will the solicitor and accountant of course - but we will always obtain quotes on your behalf first and you will have the option to accept them or not.
